CIMAP Summer Training

CIMAP Summer Training (CST) on Techniques and Tools of
Biotechnology and Bioinformatics -2008


COURSE CONTENT:

The training beginning with basics of molecular biology tools, bioinformatics and plant tissue culture techniques would provide exposition to the following main areas:
  • DNA/RNA techniques – Basic techniques of DNA/RNA, protein handling towards genomics and proteomics.
  • Molecular Biology Tools and Methods – Recent molecular biology tools & techniques including gene cloning, sequencing and analysis.
  • Plant Tissue Culture Techniques–Basic concepts of morphogenesis, synseed technology, protoplast culture & fusion, Agrobacterium – mediated genetic transformation, bio-reactor scaling-up of cell/hairy roots cultures, in vitro secondary metabolism and metabolic engineering.
  • Bioinformatics Tools and Applications –Biological database and their annotations, Pairwise and multiple sequence alignment, Genome and proteome analysis, Data Mining, Phylogenetic analysis, Gene and Protein structure prediction, drug discovery.
ELIGIBILITY:

B.Tech, M.Sc (Biotech.) and M.Tech courses. The participation in the training is limited to a manageable number of 24 trainees so as to facilitate direct hands on exposition to all participants and thus would be selection based, attempting maximum geographic coverage.


HOW TO APPLY?

The application along with the bio-data of applicant should be forwarded by the head of the institution giving in brief the benefits expected by the participant and the organization as a consequence of the training. The selection criteria will include the need of training and possibility of future work by the candidates in their respective areas of R &D through collaboration with their nearby equipped organizations and also maximum geographic representation. The course fee is Rs. 10,000/- and it would cover the registration and study material for the practicals. The last date for receiving of applications at CIMAP is 5th June, 2008. The provisional selection will be intimated to the candidates through fastest possible mode of communication at their location which will be confirmed only upon receiving the fee of Rs. 10,000/- through DD drawn in favour of Director, CIMAP, Lucknow on or before 15th June, 2008. The candidates will have to arrange for their accommodation during the course of training. Altematively, if desired, the accommodation may be arranged on payment if available.

ADMISSION TO Ph.D PROGRAMME – (2008-09)


The Institute conducts research in all frontline areas of plant biology, agriculture and chemistry. The institute invites applications from eligible candidates for admission in CIMAP-JNU Ph.D programme (2008-2009) leading to award of Ph.D degree from JNU.

ELIGIBILITY:

Candidates who have completed or will be completing M.Sc. in life sciences (Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry / Biotechnology/ Bioscience/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Bioinformatics) with minimum 55 % marks and have cleared CSIR UGC NET Exam/ ICMR NET Exam / DBT JRF Exam or any other Exam leading to JRF/ SRF fellowship tenable at CIMAP (as on 3rd August, 2008) are eligible for selection under the programme to carry out advanced research in the area of Biotechnology/ Genomics/ Plant Tissue Culture/ Bioinformatics/ Plant Physiology/ Metabolomics/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Botany and Pharmacogonosy/ Natural Product/ Synthetic/ Analytical/ Process Chemistry/ Agronomy/ Soil Science/ Plant Nutrition/ Crop Improvement/ Crop Protection/ Agricultural Economics & Extension, etc.


SELECTION PROCEDURE:

The selection will be made on the basis of interview only. The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D Programme in academic affiliation with the Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi. Reservations are as per Government of India norms.The interview of short-listed candidates will be held on 2 and 3 August 2008.

Selected candidates will have to complete Pre-Ph.D. courses in any one of the three sub-disciplines (Plant Sciences/Biotechnology and Bioinformatics/Chemical sciences) of their interest as the Core courses with optional courses, in two semesters spread over one year. On the successful completion of courses (OGPA 6.5/10 for general category and 6.0/10.0 for SC/ST/OBC) students will be eligible for registration as CIMAP-JNU Ph.D scholar under the supervision of CIMAP scientist available as guide to carry out research on a scientific topic covered under CIMAP’s mandate at CIMAP, Lucknow. A maximum of twenty four students may be admitted covering all the three sub disciplines mentioned above.

  1. Application should be typed on plain A-4 size paper in format given below. Application proforma can also be down loaded from our website
  2. Completed application forms must be accompanied with a crossed Demand Draft for Rs.300/-(rupees three hundred only) in favour of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow. A Demand Draft of Rs. 100/- (one hundred only) is acceptable from SC/ST/OBC candidate provided relevant documentary proof is attached with the application. The processing fee is not refundable.
  3. Application should be accompanied by attested copies of certificates and mark sheets from Senior Secondary level onward.
  4. Application along with Demand draft should be sent to” Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, PO CIMAP, Kukrail Picnic Spot Road, Lucknow-226015 so as to reach on or before 30 June, 2008.

Biotech Industrial Training Programme

Biotech Industrial Training Programme (BITP)-2008-09


Department of Biotechnology invites applications from post-graduates in Biotechnology for practical training in biotech companies. Stipend of Rs.6,500/- p.m. will be paid to selected candidates.


Eligibility:

M. Sc / M. Tech (Molecular Biology & Human Genetics, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Neuro-Science, Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology, Bio-process Technology, General/ Agricultural/ Industrial/Marine/Medical/Pharmaceutical/ Environmental Biotechnology), M. V. Sc (Animal Biotechnology), B. Tech (Biotechnology)


Students with minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade at highest degree level are only eligible to apply.

Students who have completed their degree in the year 2007 or 2008 are only eligible to apply.


How to apply?

A demand draft of Rs. 500/- in favour of “Biotech Consortium India Limited, New Delhi” towards non-refundable application fee along with a hard copy of the application submitted online and acknowledgement is to be sent at “Biotech Consortium India Limited, 5th floor, Anuvrat Bhawan, 210, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi-110002”. Please write your name, date of birth and contact phone no. on the reverse side of the demand draft.

The application would be accepted online only.

The online application form has to be filled within 20 minutes otherwise the page will expire.

Students whose result of last semester/final year is not declared can also apply mentioning their marks up to the semester/year up to which result declared. The final result with original mark sheet(s) of all the semesters/years will have to be produced at the time of interview.


Selection Procedure:

Students whose applications are found to be complete and eligible in all respects and are shortlisted will only be called for the interview. Individual intimation would be sent to the shortlisted candidates for interview.

Students called for interview will have to bring copy of their dissertation work.

Students who by their own efforts are able to obtain recommendations from companies for training will be given preference. They would also be required to undergo the selection procedure as described above. They can bring the acceptance letter from company while coming for the interview. However, the decision of the selection committee shall be final.
